I was not at all a fan of protein shakes in the beginning of my fitness journey. I initially thought, why would I ingest supplements when I could just eat food? Why would I ingest these powders that I have no idea what is truly in them? There are plenty of protein powders out in the market today so I would definitely suggest doing your research and reading reviews before trying one. There are also many available if you are on a vegan or on a vegetarian diet.
I turned to protein powder for two reasons. One, with a kid it was much easier to have a quick meal after a workout in case my son Jet decided to wake up earlier than I expected from his nap. Two, I picked up a pattern. There were times after a workout I would feel extremely tired even after eating a good meal. It was not a tiredness from sore muscles but I felt fatigued, I could tell I needed more food in my system. Specifically, protein.
I craved protein when I would get like that and once I had an extra piece of meat I noticed the difference in energy immediately.
I came across a protein powder from Equip. What caught my attention initially was their ingredient list and that it is 100% grass-fed beef protein. It consists of only three ingredients; beef isolate, cocoa powder, and stevia. I tried it and I honestly love it. It fills me up after a hard training session, I don’t feel fatigued anymore, and I have a much better recovery when drinking this.
Now to the recipe, I have typed too long 🙂

Chocolate Banana Protein Shake
Ingredients
- 8oz of water (or coconut water for extra hydration)
- 1 scoop of Equip Prime Protein Chocolate powder (You can use my code: MH10 for a discount!)
- 1 frozen banana (doesn’t have to be frozen, I just enjoy a chilled drink : )
- 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon of cacao powder
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- add Pink Himalayan Salt to your liking (trust me it makes all the difference, this is really the key!!)
Instructions
- Add all ingredients into blender and blend until smooth.
- Add chia seeds once blended if you wish.
If you love chocolate, you should love this shake because it has cocoa and cacao powder in it. The banana and coconut oil sweetened it up and I add cinnamon along with cacao powder because of their nutritional benefits. Fulfills my sweet tooth in a healthy manner, and helps recover the muscles I break down while training.
Keep in mind, when trying something new especially when it leans more towards the healthy route, you may initially not like the taste. If that is the case, add another banana and blend. Your taste buds will adjust after the first few times of trying any new food.
Enjoy!
